Our State Meet was the 2nd largest meet in USMS this year to Nationals!  Larger than YMCA Masters Nationals!  Here in Illinois!  Incredible!  A record number of ILMSA records were broken!  3 USMS records from 50 year old Dave Sims.  1:59.26 200 fly, 2:00.56 200 IM & 4:21.91 400IM!  WOW.

Thank you Wild Catfish for supporting this effort!  Y'all done a good job!

The May 19th 2013 Banquet is next....  Oh the stories we will create....

Who will win the Catfish of the Year?  MVS, most valuable swimmer?  Will Meghan dance on a pool table?  Attend and find out.

Congratulations Wild Catfish T.R. Raese for winning the 50 back at USMS Nationals!  40+ men 25.23 seconds!  And to Ann Stevens and Henrietta Berning for two First place relay performances in the 75+ age group!

The Catfish Culture of the month was held at Steve Mulins' Toby Jug Museum here in downtown Evanston Saturday the 23rd.  He is a world reknown collector and has thousands on display in beautiful wood cases.  We met for pizza, salad and wine before Steve guded a tour of the collection.  What a nice evening with fellow fish.  And now we know a lot more about Toby jugs.

31 years and still going strong!

Thank you Steve and Carol for a lovely evening at a historic home.  Pat Brummet showed off her fancy State Meet Winning jacket from 1983!  Our team colors back then were Green and Gold!  Plenty of fish appeared with tasty plates of food.  The co mingling was memorable and bordered on naughty.  To top off the night, we crowded into the formal dining room for many champagne toasts and not one but two cakes.  Thank you to all that participated.  See Team Photos for the fun.

Mark your Calendar!  4/25-4/28 2013!

What would a Swim Meet be without timers and Volunteers?   Nothing....
Thank you!
Winter means Swim Meet Season and Hard Training.

Sunday, January 20th, we hosted a well executed and oddly entertaing swim meet. The Evanston Masters Winter Heat Meet!  The meet started almost early, and ended just after noon.  Officials Rich & Ernie oversaw the events & the timers, volunteers and Silkaitis Crew were awesome.

Thank you Wild Catfish Members for stepping up to the plate.  Check out the Jan 2013 Team Photos from the meet on the Team Photo page.  You can be in many photos if you show up in some way at State Meet!

Experienced Fish will also tell you to go to our team meet road trip!

Congratulations to all fish that swam in the 100X100's December 29th! So far, We've raised $875 for the Evanston150 teach a kid to swim program, thank you! That was a great way to start the new year & main season. Way to go: Mitch Lopata, Joe Carroll, Andy Walberer, Andy Lotter, Tim Stevens, Boyd Black, Ginny Daunt, & Shannon Boyle. The following swimmers swam for a full 3-hours. Awesome job: Steve Birenberg, Robert Strauder, & Anna Olszewska. Very Wild, Catfish.

We will offer video taping for every team member in January so please sign up! This an invaluable tool for members to improve stroke and times.

We host the IL State Meet April 25-28th, so we have months to get in shape, learn a new skill, or lose some more weight! State Meet is fun!  Whatever your goal, The Wild Catfish can help.

Big Shoulders 2012 was HUGE!

The largest ever for the event and the Wild Catfish were well represented.

Mother Nature was wacky all summer and Big Shoulders 9/8/12 was no exception.  Rain Friday night and high winds threatened cold water and huge waves.  The fears did not pan out.  Water was warmer than the air and the  waves were under three feet.  Perfect morning for a great race.  Kudo's to the Chicago Masters who put it on.

Congratulations to all Wild Catfish who braved the cold air and swam, and then were rewarded with rediculously tasty ribs!  Read about it in the Catfish Chronicle.

Summer Swimming 2012 is over!  Open water is all that remains.

It's true!  A few hardy fish will swim into October in lake Michigan as long as the water allows us. You can see all along the lakeshore from the safety bouys.  We even have two members who surf in the ice slush in winter saying "that is where the big waves are".   Read about it in the Fall Catfish Chronicle.

Often, we swim out to the wreck of the George Morley for a warmup before heading to the NU rocks.  Check out the Morley Mermaid Video!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwADF1TlOTs

At right are the Wild Catfish Rocks at NU that the OW Crew swims to & painted.  Lake swims are optional and our insurance does not cover them.  They are not coached.  Everyone must have a swim buddy their speed. We do meet up as a group at intervals along the Evanston Shoreline. The views are incredible.  Good times.

Mullins Beach Bash was a Blast!

Finally the weather was perfect for a fantastic day at the beach.  The Mullin's new housing compound has a new house in the trees.  Steve Mullins gave us insider's a tour like a guy who hatched a golden egg.  And worth Gold it might be.  To be truthful, the traffic on the way made us wonder if it would be worth it, shame on us.  Awesome times!

When you approach the house in the woods, it does not reveal the beachfront perch.  Still, the feeling is wow. Thru the house there are 100 steps down to the beach.  Jet ski, Ski Boat/tubing, open water swim and a Beach Barbecue.  More pictures in the members area.

Big Shoulders Open Water Race   SOLD OUT!  Come on down and Cheer!

Cap off the summer season with the Big Shoulders Open Water Race.  Downtown along the lakefront is an awesome place to swim.  Use the buildings as your markers and make a good morning of it.  Saturday September 8th, 2012.  2.5K or 5K races.  We offer open water training on Sunday mornings in Evanston, and monthly travel downtown to the race course for experience.  This is the largest masters OW race in the midwest.  Tons of fun!

Catfish Spawn Conor Dwyer takes 5th in the 400 free & then GOLD in London!

Conor Dwyer, son of Wild Catfish Jeanne & Pat Dwyer, placed fifth overall in the 400 free (3:46.39) in London!  To top that, he swam for GOLD on the USA 4 X 200 Relay with Phelps, Lochte and Ricky Berens!  Congratulations!   Go team USA in the Olympics!

Swim Across America  Awesome morning that made folks cry!

On Saturday, August 4th 2012, more than a dozen of your fellow team mates participated in the Swim Across America (SAA) fund raiser for cancer research, including Dave Ackerman, Mike Bailey, Boyd Black, Steve Birenberg, Pat Brummet, Tom Buck, Barb Delanois, Phil Dodson, Brian Goyette, Alison Janus, John Martin, Bill Owens, Amy Statton and Kimberly Stevens.  Note: Amos Coffin and Andy Zoltner are on the injured reserve list.  Come join or support our team, Team Life.  This year, we raised more than $31,000 and took home the team trophy for the most masters participants and raising the most funds.    THANK YOU!

Congratulations!!   30 years in the top three at Illinois Masters State meet!

What an amazing time we had at State this past weekend.  The team brought home the third place trophy, but there were so many great swims by almost everyone on the team!!  Club records were broken, swimmers earned unexpected "hardware", and fun was had by all.  If you weren't there, you were very square!  Great job everyone!!!

Congratulations to our high point winners - Lisa Hesterberg, Heather Lingner, Larry Scott, Steve Mullins, and Alice Hanes.
